Wow, things have been super busy lately! As such, I’m all booked up for the season, and I have quite a waiting list so unfortunately I am not taking on any new orders right now. I am going to wait until I clear the backlog of orders, and once I do, I’ll post here that I’m accepting orders again!
…also, this blog is badly in need of an update! Hopefully I’ll find the time to do that soon!
Ok, ok, I know I’m terrible for updating this site. I have plans, but it’s hard to find the time to do it. So, here’s the latest:
I have been dealing with some health issues that sometimes make it difficult to get my work done, but things are getting better and I am trying to get caught up on my waiting list of orders. I am very sorry about any delays! I’m currently looking at about October for new orders.
I’ve just updated my pricing and policies, etc. I’ve had to increase my prices recently, due to a couple of things. My costs for supplies has gone up significantly (probably due to the lower Canadian Dollar), and I have been trying to get a better understanding of what my time and effort is worth. This is a hard thing for many crafters to figure out. We want our prices to be low enough that people can afford them, but we put a lot of time, effort, and skill into our pieces, and our prices must make that worthwhile. Finding a balance between these things can be so hard! There are entire web sites dedicated to this pricing dilemma, so I won’t get too into it here.
I’ve adjusted the way I ship. I always try to charge as close to the actual shipping price as possible. I use Canada Post, and in the past have used their most basic, cheapest option in an effort to keep prices down. This option does not come with a tracking number though, so I have switched to using their “Tracked Package” option. It is more expensive, but is the only way to track the shipment.
Ok, I’m terrible about updating this blog. I am going to be re-doing the whole thing soon so that it looks better, but first I have to find the time to do it! Anyway, brief update today:
My schedule is full between now and Christmas, so unfortunately I won’t be able to take new orders for Christmas delivery. I am still taking orders though, and am currently looking at a February delivery time. And as my schedule continues to fill, that will get pushed back later and later. I really appreciate all the interest in my ornaments, you guys are awesome!
Wow! I’ve gotten a lot of inquiries about the Child with Cochlear Implants ornament I posted about! Thank you, everyone, for the kind words. I will do my very best to get back to all of you, but please be patient.
Here’s a little information for anyone who is interested:
I would prefer if you could contact me by my e-mail: email@example.com as this will greatly help keep me organized and hopefully not miss anyone!
My schedule is completely full between now and Christmas, but if you are interested in waiting until after Christmas I’d be happy to add you to my list. I’m currently looking at January-March for a completion/delivery time frame.
The ornaments are $15 plus shipping (Canadian dollars). If you give me your postal/zip code or country (if outside of North America) I can give you the shipping price.
I can customise them, so let me know what you’re looking for (hair colour, device colour, glasses, hearing aids, etc.)
I am currently in the midst of making my Christmas orders, but I had to take a little break to share this very special one. I was contacted by the mother of a little boy with cochlear implants. She wanted to get a special ornament for him, and was looking for something relating to the implants. She had looked around on-line, but found nothing suitable for a child. She actually came across my site while looking for a Deadpool ornament for her other son, and happened to ask if I did custom work as well, and could I do this one for her. I have a nephew who has them, so I already had a basic idea of what they were, and I was very excited to be asked to make this ornament! I had to do a much simplified version of the device, but I think it turned out pretty well.
(For those of you who don’t know, a cochlear implant is a surgically implanted electronic device that allows deaf or hard of hearing people to hear. Wikipedia has more information: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cochlear_implant . I really recommend checking that out or just Googling cochlear implants. They are an amazing, fascinating technology! )
Well, it’s that time of year again! I feel like it sneaked up on me this year. Especially as I go back through older posts here….I have seriously got to get better about updating this blog. Maybe that’ll be my New Year’s resolution. Anyway, I am swamped with Christmas orders, which means I have reached the limit of what I can make and ship in time for Christmas. If we’ve already chatted and I’ve told you I’ll do it in time, don’t worry, nothing has changed, you’ll get your order in time. For new orders though, I’m looking at delivery in mid January! But if you’re willing to wait, I’m willing to put you on my list! :)
In other news, I have recently started shipping to the UK! And I guess most of the rest of the world, although I haven’t shipped anywhere else yet (besides North America, been doing that for a while). What I mean to say is, if you are somewhere on Earth, let me know where you are and I can give you a shipping estimate!
Ok, just a couple more things that I’ve made recently
Twin Owl Figure
This was a gift for my daughters’ teacher at the end of the last school year. They had the same teacher that they did last year (and were together in the same class again too), so I made this to match the owl sitting on books that I made for her the year before. Twin owls, because my girls are twins. One has glasses, so I added that to an owl too!
Bookworm Figurine (Back)
A friend of mine requested this bookworm figurine for her daughter’s teacher. I think it turned out really cute!
This was a special request for a couple getting married, with a request to incorporate the fact that he’s American and she’s Canadian.
Ok, so I’ve had a really bad couple of weeks, and unfortunately I had to cancel my table at the Ottawa Geek Market at the last minute. There’s another one going on in March that I will be attending though. Anyway, I know I said this before, but I really do have some pictures coming up of the stuff I made to sell at the market, and I’m hoping to have them up this weekend!
